Below you will find important dates and information regarding the opening of the school year. Please read through all of the information provided.
This year we continue to align ourselves with LAUSD’s adopted Strategic Plan. With this plan, we established an inspiring vision for how we can improve student achievement and close opportunity gaps. We believe that by outlining a singular goal, and a vision for achieving this goal, we can ensure that everyone who is a part of Los Angeles Unified will be able to support and uplift our district together.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making Colfax an amazing place to learn. I am very excited for this school year and all the fun and learning that will take place. Colfax is a special community that prides itself on knowing our students’ stories, fostering an inclusive environment where our teachers can differentiate instruction to fit the needs of all, and provides a whole child program that includes a robust enrichment schedule to complement our standards based instruction. This year let’s make more friends, give more high fives, and be the reason someone smiles each and every day.

Important Dates:
Class Assignments – the week of August 1st
Parents will be able to see their child’s class assignment two weeks before school starts. Please log into the parent portal to view your child’s teacher. On the first day of school Colfax Teachers will meet students (grades 1-5) on the playground and escort them to class. Kindergarten and TK students will receive their class assignment at Kinder and TK Orientation, August 11th - and will gather in the kinder playground to meet their teacher on the first day of school. If you are new to our school in grades 1-5 and do not have a Parent Portal pin #, we will send your pin # home on the first day of school. On the first day of school, staff will be looking to assist any students who do not know their class assignment.
Kinder Orientation Friday August 11th (students invited)
8:30am in the Colfax Auditorium (enter on Addison)
Meet the incredible team of Kindergarten teachers and learn everything you need to know for your student's upcoming school year! From how to pack a lunch to what shoes to wear to school, you'll get all your questions answered! Following the orientation, Kinder parents and students are invited to an all kinder play date sponsored by the PTA, on the kindergarten playground.

School Beautification Saturday August 12th
8am-12pm enter on Colfax (big green gates)
Calling ALL families! Come pitch in for an hour or stay for a while and help our school get ready to welcome back our students and families. There are tasks for all ages to get our school sparkling for the first day!
Colfax Welcome Back Picnic Saturday August 12th
12-3pm at Valley Village Park
After Beautification is over, come to Valley Village Park for an all-school family playdate. This is a great chance to reconnect with old friends and meet a few new ones before school starts. There will be a magician performance, drinks, snacks, and sweet treats! Bring a blanket and some sun screen and join us for a fun afternoon.
First Day of School August 14th and New Family Orientation
School starts at 8:10 every morning.
We look forward to seeing all of our students on time and ready to learn - gates open at 7:40 am - "arrive at 8 and you won’t be late!" I invite all of our new families in grades 1-5 to join me in the auditorium on the first day of school starting at 8:20 am for our New Family Orientation.
Townhall Meetings August 23rd & 24th 6 pm – Colfax Auditorium.
We invite parents in grades 1-3 to join us Wednesday August 23rd and parents in grades 4-5 to join us Thursday August 24th for our Colfax Townhall Meetings. We will be discussing our school policies, programs, and data based initiatives for the 23-24 school year.
